It is with great saddness we announce the loss of Tim Brown, a dedicated member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 31, “The Stand Easy,” from Jasper, Alberta, whose commitment to his country and his fellow veterans created a lasting legacy.
In a gesture of profound respect, the branch has lowered its flag in honor of Tim, a man who truly lived the Legion’s principles of duty, honor, and fellowship. His steadfast involvement in supporting veterans and organizing local commemorative events will be fondly recalled by all who gathered with him.
Born and raised amid Alberta’s majestic wilderness, Tim developed an early passion for the outdoors, a calling that later influenced his decision to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. His time in the military during a significant period cultivated in him a strong sense of discipline and fortitude, qualities that seamlessly carried over into his civilian life in Jasper.
For more than three decades, Tim contributed to Jasper’s vibrant tourism industry, working as a guide who introduced guests to the wonders of the national park. He skillfully wove the region’s rich history into his tours, often using organized hikes as opportunities to bring together fellow veterans for companionship and shared reflection.
His family was his true foundation. He was a loving husband to his wife of 45 years and a supportive father to two children who pursued their own paths of community service. On weekends at their family cabin, he delighted in hosting gatherings, teaching his grandchildren to fish and sharing stories from his years with the Legion. These peaceful times revealed his dependable character and the deep connections he nurtured, both within his family and among his wide circle of friends.
Tim appreciated the uncomplicated joys of life in the Rockies, whether casting a line into the Athabasca River or enjoying a friendly game of curling with Legion companions. He was a driving force behind branch activities, such as the yearly “Stand Easy” golf event, which supported educational funds for veterans’ families. These pursuits highlighted a person who valued engagement and community above all, finding fulfillment in shared experiences.
While the family has chosen to keep funeral details private, the Legion will hold a commemorative gathering at Branch 31 in the near future to honor Tim’s memory. His life of generous service remains a powerful example, encouraging the Jasper community to continue upholding the values he so faithfully represented.
