On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Alan Martin Nelson, 88, died peacefully in Burlington, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loved ones. His life had been marked by accuracy, faith, and quiet determination. Alan was born in Lynn on November 15, 1937, to Swedish immigrants Martin and Edith Olson Nelson.
Alan’s roots in Winchester gave him a strong foundation, and after graduating from Winchester High School, he launched his professional path through the apprentice program at the General Electric Aircraft Engine Group in Lynn. Over an impressive 44-year career, he advanced steadily from machinist to supervisor.
He iltimately served as a Tool Support and Methods Planner, where he approved designs, developed essential tools, and pioneered the introduction of ceramic cutting tools to the manufacturing process. His expertise and unwavering commitment earned him numerous awards and the deep respect of colleagues who knew him as a problem-solver who led by example.
Faith and family formed the cornerstone of Alan’s life, nurtured in a home rich with Swedish traditions and grounded in Christian belief. He and his beloved wife Nancy, whom he met at the Church of the Open Bible in Burlington, shared 66 years of marriage built on mutual devotion, shared worship, and a commitment to raising their children with love and integrity. Their church community felt like an extended family, and it was within those walls that Alan proposed to Nancy, beginning a partnership that would inspire generations.
Beyond his immediate family, Alan cherished his siblings David Nelson and his wife Joanne of Woburn and Carole Pratt and her husband Dan of Burlington, along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who valued his wisdom, gentle humor, and steadfast presence. He approached every relationship with the same care he brought to his work, listening attentively, offering practical advice, and celebrating others’ successes with genuine joy. Those who knew him remember a man who lived with purpose, treated others with respect, and found deep satisfaction in a life well ordered and generously shared.
Friends and family are invited to honor Alan’s life at a memorial service on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Salem Bible Church, 11 Ermer Road, Salem, New Hampshire, with refreshments to follow.
