Howard S. Cohen of Upper Moreland Township, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on December 3, 2025, at the age of 73. His death has left his family, friends, and the community in deep sorrow, as they remember a man whose life was defined by dedication to education, faith, and family.
Born on November 18, 1952, Howard devoted more than three decades to serving students and colleagues in the Upper Moreland School District. As a school psychologist, he was admired for his warmth, humor, and generosity, qualities that made him not only a respected professional but also a beloved mentor and friend. Even after retiring in 2016, he continued to support students through coaching, advising, and mentoring, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young people.
Howard’s devotion extended beyond his professional life. He was a past president of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Bensalem, where his leadership strengthened bonds within the congregation and advanced its mission. His faith and commitment to community service reflected his belief in compassion, inclusivity, and the importance of building connections.
He is survived by his wife, Jacki Cohen (née Spilker); his children, Julie (Todd) Miller and Matthew (Abbe) Cohen; his grandchildren, Ian, Emily, Bella, and Benji; and his sister, Debbie (Jeff) Rosen. Family members describe him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose encouragement and loyalty provided comfort and guidance. His grandchildren affectionately knew him as “Zayda,” a role he cherished deeply.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 7, at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors Suburban North in Southampton, followed by interment at Shalom Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley. Shiva was observed through Thursday evening at the family’s residence.
Howard Cohen’s passing has left a profound void in both the Upper Moreland School District and Congregation Tifereth Israel. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, compassion, and faith, whose influence will continue to inspire all who knew him.
