A 17‑year‑old resident of Summerville, Ma’Davion N. Smalls, lost his life Thursday night after sustaining a bullet wound inside a car. Authorities have since arrested a juvenile suspect on murder charges, though the individual’s name remains withheld due to age restrictions.
The chain of events began at John McKissick Stadium on South Magnolia Street. According to investigators, the shooting occurred while the vehicle was parked near that location, not during the subsequent traffic stop where the victim was eventually discovered. Witness statements and physical evidence allowed law enforcement to trace the incident back to the stadium area.
Smalls was found slumped in the backseat of a car after Dorchester County deputies pulled the vehicle over for speeding along Midland Parkway. The stop happened near Benton’s Lodge Road, where officers realized a passenger had been seriously wounded. Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene, but the teen was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m., according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
Officials confirmed that the bullet struck Smalls in the chest. The coroner later formally identified his remains and notified next of kin. Investigators believe the driver left the stadium grounds following the shooting, unaware—or perhaps fleeing—before being flagged down by patrol units for a moving violation.
