Greenburgh Murder‑Suicide: Police Identify Victims as Robert Watson, Cherika Johnson, and Jaden Johnson

Three family members were killed in a murder-suicide in Greenburgh, New York, after police found the remains during a welfare check at a home at 351 Parkway Homes Road on Thursday at 1:20 p.m. According to Greenburgh police, when officers entered the house, they discovered that all three people had gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as Robert Watson, 76, the homeowner; his daughter Cherika Nataye Johnson, 50; and her son Jaden Johnson, 23. Police confirmed that two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where they later died.

Investigators determined that the deaths were the result of an isolated domestic violence incident. Early findings indicated that Jaden Johnson was suspected of shooting his mother and grandfather before taking his own life, though police have not released a motive. Authorities emphasized that there was no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.

Neighbors described the discovery as shocking, noting that the family had long been part of the community. One resident who lived across the street said she had known of Watson for decades and frequently saw him walking his dog or attending services at First Community Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Church leaders also expressed grief, recalling Watson as a dedicated member who held leadership roles and was deeply involved in church activities. Pastor Tyrone Robinson described both Watson and Cherika Johnson as beloved members of the congregation, noting that Johnson had been a longtime choir singer.

Greenburgh police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 914‑989‑1725. Officials reiterated that the case appears to be a double murder‑suicide with no indication of wider public danger.
