The chain of destruction began with a 2013 Cadillac SRX traveling southbound. For reasons still unclear, the Cadillac sideswiped a 2020 Lexus RX 350. The impact was not minor. The Lexus lost control immediately. Tires lost traction. Steering failed to respond. The vehicle crossed the center line and slid into the northbound lanes.
That is when the third vehicle entered the sequence. A 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound, the driver unaware that a Lexus was about to appear directly in its path. The two cars collided head on. The force was catastrophic. Metal folded. Glass exploded. Airbags deployed too late to matter.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to find a scene of extensive debris. Car parts littered both directions of Route 367. Vehicles had been displaced far from their original points of impact. The Cadillac driver, whose name has not been released, was the only person involved who walked away. Whether that driver will face charges remains unknown. Investigators have not disclosed whether speed, impairment, distraction, or mechanical failure contributed to the initial sideswipe.
