Just before 1 a.m. on a Sunday, the 4000 block of Park Avenue on Indianapolis’ north side was quiet. Then the gunshots came. Multiple callers dialed 911. Some reported a disturbance. Others simply said they heard shots. Officers arrived within minutes.
What they found was a chaotic scene. Residents had already gathered outside. A woman lay near the sidewalk. Blood pooled beneath her. Police immediately began providing medical aid. They worked to stop the bleeding. They talked to her, trying to keep her conscious. Emergency medical personnel arrived and took over.
The woman, later identified as Brittany Grundy, was rushed to a local Level I trauma hospital. Surgeons tried to save her. Advanced trauma care was administered. Surgical intervention followed. But the damage was too severe. She died from her injuries.
Grundy was not the only victim. Investigators later learned that two adult males had also been shot during the same incident. They did not wait for an ambulance. They self transported to area hospitals. Their conditions have not been publicly released. Whether they were involved in the disturbance or simply bystanders remains unclear.
Preliminary findings suggest that gunfire erupted after an argument or disturbance escalated. What was said, who was involved, and how the confrontation began are all still under investigation. Detectives are also looking into whether the incident occurred at or near a short term rental property, though no final determination has been made. Short term rentals have been the site of previous violent incidents in the city, including shootings and large unruly gatherings.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has not announced any arrests. No suspects have been identified. The investigation remains active. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses who may have seen something before, during, or after the shooting.
