Early on Monday morning, January 12, 2026, a couple in their forties from the Katy area were shot and killed in their own house while their kids were sleeping upstairs. One of the couple’s older sons reported that his mother and father had been shot and were “beyond help” to 911 at around 5:20 a.m.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office subsequently determined that the victims were 52-year-old Trinette Lopez (also known as Trinette Rayson-Lopez) and her spouse, Christopher Lopez.
The couple was declared dead at the spot despite the efforts of EMS and deputies to save their lives when they arrived at the two-story house on Bent Springs Lane. Christopher Lopez was discovered with a gunshot wound to his face close to the house’s main living area. Trinette Lopez, who had been shot twice in the head and once in the left hand, was found close by in the kitchen area.
The double killing was verified by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators have claimed that they think the shooting was a targeted strike rather than a random incident due to the nature of the crime. At the time of the shooting, the couple’s two adult children and a 7-year-old relative—whom family members claimed was an adopted cousin—were asleep upstairs. They hurried downstairs after hearing gunshots, where they found their parents dead.
Speaking in public, the victims’ adult children have described their parents as “great parents” and high school sweethearts who were well-known for taking in family members.
