A 45-year-old Canadian actor and producer from Lions Bay, British Columbia, has died following a reported disappearance. Stewart McLean, known professionally as Stew McLean, was last seen at his residence on May 15, 2026.
He was reported missing to the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police on May 18 after failing to show up for filming. His remains were later discovered in the Lions Bay area, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case.
McLean built a career in film and television, appearing in more than 30 productions over more than a decade. His notable television credits included roles in Virgin River, Arrow, Murder in a Small Town, The Irrational, Happy Face, Supernatural, The 100, Beyond, and Travelers. In addition to acting, he also worked as a producer on various projects throughout his career.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced on May 20 that evidence uncovered during the missing persons investigation led investigators to believe McLean was the victim of a homicide.
IHIT Corporal Esther Tupper stated that investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage, and conduct interviews to build a timeline of McLean’s activities prior to May 15. Police have described the incident as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
McLean’s talent agency, Lucas Talent Inc., confirmed his death in a statement shared by agent Jodi Caplan. The agency described him as dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny, noting that he had been a pleasure to work with for more than a decade. Acting coach and close friend Jeff Seymour told media outlets that he suspected something was wrong when McLean, whom he described as meticulous about everything, failed to appear for filming.
Friends, colleagues, and fans have expressed shock and sorrow across social media platforms. Director Ryan Minaker remembered McLean as someone who radiated talent while remaining professional, humble, and approachable. Casting directors and industry professionals have reached out to the family and agency to offer condolences, with many noting that McLean was a truly great guy.
No cause of death has been publicly released. The BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service are assisting IHIT in the investigation.
