Ronald Bear Death – Julia Blackwell Charged After Running Over Florida Man in Orange County

A good Samaritan lost his life in Orange County after stopping to help a stranded driver early Saturday morning. Ronald Bear, 59, was fatally struck and run over after successfully pulling Julia Blackwell’s pickup truck out of the mud. The incident has shocked the community due to the circumstances surrounding the assistance that turned deadly.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, near the intersection of State Road 50 and State Road 520 in rural Orange County, Florida. Blackwell had called Bear for help after her vehicle became stuck in mud off the roadway. Bear arrived with his truck and used a tow strap to free her pickup.

After Bear exited his vehicle to disconnect the tow strap, witnesses reported that Blackwell accelerated forward, striking him. She then allegedly reversed, running over him with a tire. Someone at the scene reportedly yelled, “You killed him.” Ronald Bear was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

Instead of remaining at the scene to render aid, Blackwell allegedly left with a passenger in another truck. She reportedly got stuck again farther down the road and called for another ride. Florida Highway Patrol investigators located and arrested her several days later.

Julia Blackwell was arrested on May 20, 2026, and formally charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review witness statements, physical evidence from the scene, and potential additional charges.

Ronald Bear was remembered by those who knew him as a helpful and generous man who was always willing to assist others in need. His death has left family and the local community mourning what they describe as a preventable tragedy following an act of kindness.
