A tragic accident claimed the life of Sarah Monaghan in Orillia on November 29, 2025. The collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Highway 11 near Line 15 North when Sarah’s vehicle was involved in a multi-car crash during heavy evening traffic. Despite rapid response from Orillia OPP and Simcoe County paramedics, Sarah was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other drivers sustained minor injuries.
Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the cause, with early reports indicating possible black ice and reduced visibility. The highway was closed for several hours while troopers reconstructed the incident. Witnesses are asked to contact Orillia OPP with any information.
Sarah grew up in Orillia, where she attended Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School and later Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School after her family moved. She was the girl with the contagious laugh, the one who organized lunch-time sing-alongs, and who never let a friend feel left out. Teachers remember her kindness and classmates still talk about the way she made everyone feel included.
She had a spirit that lit up rooms: whether she was dancing at a school event, planning road trips with friends, or simply sitting by Lake Couchiching sharing stories, Sarah lived with her whole heart. She loved music, adventure, and the people who made life feel big and beautiful.
Family was everything to Sarah. She leaves behind parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a tight circle of friends who became family. Her sudden absence has left a silence no one knows how to fill, but her love echoes in every memory they hold.
Orillia has lost one of its brightest lights far too soon. Sarah Monaghan lived with joy in her laugh and love in her eyes. The community is wrapping its arms around her family with meals, support, and endless prayers.
