After almost a century of consistent presence in the rural heartland, Vivian L. Belding, 99, of Beatrice, Nebraska, died quietly on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Gardenside in Fairbury. She left behind a life characterized by resiliency, loyalty to family, and modest contribution to her community.
She married Orville “Max” Belding on January 5, 1944, in Tyler, Texas. The couple lived together for thirty years in the rural Diller, Endicott, and Steele City areas as well as south of Diller before relocating to Beatrice in 1984, where they raised their family amid the farming communities of southeast Nebraska.
Vivian worked diligently in a variety of roles that reflected her caring nature, spending five years in the kitchen at Odell Public School, seven years at the sewing factory in Odell, and 18½ years as a nurse’s aide at Beatrice Manor, always bringing warmth and reliability to those she served each day.
She continued her commitment to helping others by going to work at the P.E.O. Home in Beatrice in April of 2001 and retiring in 2011, later residing at Kensington of Beatrice for two years before moving to Gardenside in Fairbury in 2022, where she remained active and gracious until the very end.
She is survived by her daughters Cathy Briggs of Beatrice and Jackie Swartz of Endicott, son Michael (Deb) Belding of Beatrice, daughter-in-law Julie Belding, five grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, while she was preceded in death by her husband Orville “Max” Belding, infant daughter Teresa Belding, son Ron Belding, parents Bill and Mildred (Boyd) Karr, brothers Everett (Anne) Karr and Gale Karr, and great-grandchildren Elijah Reeves and Jayda Daniel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Fox Funeral Home in Beatrice with Jon Palmquist officiating, followed by burial at 2:00 P.M. at Steele City Cemetery of rural Steele City, with the body lying in state on Sunday, April 12, from noon until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, offering family and friends a chance to celebrate a woman whose quiet strength and generous spirit touched so many.
