On January 8, 2026, 97-year-old Mary Sue Kendall (Burt) of Covington, Texas, passed away. Wyatt Armstead Burt and Jeffie Aline Burt welcomed her into the world in Osceola. Her life was marked by a strong sense of spirituality, a strong commitment to her family, and a steady involvement in the community.
While employed at the First National Bank of Grandview, she met her future spouse, Joe Frank Kendall. Their union endured for sixty-four years, forming a partnership distinguished by mutual devotion and serving as the foundation for a nurturing household.
Her religious commitment was a defining element of her identity. As a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, she fulfilled the role of church treasurer for an extended period and facilitated a women’s Sunday school class. Her stewardship and charitable nature impacted numerous individuals within her congregation.
She derived pleasure from modest and social pastimes. She enjoyed playing the domino game 42 with relatives and friends, valuing the camaraderie it fostered. An enthusiastic supporter of Texas A&M University athletics, she took delight in viewing competitions and sharing in her family’s spirited, often superstitious, spectatorship.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Covington, with Dr. Marc Burnett and Dr. Frank Morrow officiating. Interment will follow at Covington Cemetery. Visitation will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with an immediate family gathering at 9:30 a.m.
Her existence was one of faith, affection, and diligent service. Her remembrance will persist within her family, her religious community, and the wider locality, who will continue to draw guidance from her model of benevolence, fidelity, and graciousness.
