Barbara Kennedy Abram, aged ninety-seven, of Downers Grove, Illinois, died on December 9, 2025, attended by her family. Her extended lifespan was distinguished by loyalty to her kin, durable social bonds, and a profound dedication to civic engagement. She bequeaths a heritage of benevolence, fortitude, and conviction that will persist as an inspiration to her acquaintances.
A Midwestern native, her existence was principally characterized by familial commitment. She sustained a long and affectionate marital partnership, reared children, and cultivated a domestic environment noted for its nurturance. Relatives and friends remember her as an individual who consistently prioritized others, providing counsel, support, and unreserved affection.
Her life was further augmented by enduring friendships and communal participation. Through ecclesiastical, neighborhood, and philanthropic activities, she affected numerous individuals with her magnanimity and empathy. She was esteemed for her capacity to relate to people across generational and social divides, leaving an extensive network who will feel her absence.
She is survived by her offspring: Thomas (spouse Marcia), James, and Jonathan (spouse Peggy); by Deb Crawford Abram (former spouse of James); and by her grandchildren: Megan Joiner (spouse Jovan Joiner), David Abram (spouse Mary O’Conner), Emily Abram, Sarah Abram, Ellen Abram (partner Ashley Nguyen), and Kate Abramsen (spouse Erik Abramsen).
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church (1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, Illinois). A private interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
