He is survived by his parents, Gary and Debbie Melson of Osceola, Texas; his brothers, Gary Don Melson (spouse Tracy) of Alvarado and Tony Richardson of Paris, Texas; his nieces, Elisa and Lauren; and his nephews, Gavin and Gary Jr. His family portrays him as one who prioritized interpersonal connections and derived contentment from these bonds.
