Mark Rouse, 74, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by his family after a brief illness. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and nationally recognized artist, he leaves behind a legacy of quiet faith, boundless creativity, and devotion to those he loved.
Born in Indianapolis in 1951, Mark grew up in the Broad Ripple area and graduated from Lawrence Central High School before earning a fine arts degree from Herron School of Art. After a successful career in commercial design, he returned full-time to painting in the 1990s, finding his true voice in luminous landscapes and spiritually inspired works that earned him signature status in multiple watercolor societies.
As a longtime HCAA Juried Artist with the Hoosier Salon and a member of the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, Mark exhibited annually at the Indiana State Fair and the Hoosier Salon Gallery in Carmel. His translucent watercolors of Midwest barns, winding rivers, and golden light over cornfields were collected across the country and graced the covers of regional magazines.
Mark shared 52 years of marriage with his wife Diana, whom he met at a church youth retreat in 1971. Together they raised four children and delighted in nine grandchildren, hosting Sunday dinners and summer lake gatherings at their Geist Reservoir home where laughter and storytelling filled every room.
A man of deep faith, Mark served as an elder at Geist Christian Church for over three decades and quietly supported mission work in Haiti, often donating paintings to fundraising auctions. He mentored younger artists through the Fishers Arts Council and led plein-air workshops that emphasized seeing God’s beauty in ordinary scenes.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Geist Christian Church in Fishers, with a reception featuring a retrospective display of his paintings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association or the church’s Haiti mission fund, ensuring Mark’s light continues to shine through art and service.
