The school day at Valley Forge High School in Parma Heights, Ohio, was nearly over. Dismissal had just happened. Then a single gunshot rang out inside the cafeteria. It was shortly before 2:10 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Students and staff turned to see an 18-year-old female on the floor. She had fired a bullet into herself. Her name was Marissa Rand. Police and firefighters rushed to the scene within minutes. They gave her emergency medical care right there in the cafeteria. Then they took her to a hospital. She did not survive.
