Lorelei E. Strickland Death – Florida woman and her husband Jarrott Strickland has died

The Gulf County community in Florida remains in shock over the tragic deaths of Lorelei E. Strickland, 40, and her husband Jarrott Strickland, whose lives ended abruptly in their home on Stone Mill Creek Road in the Stone Mill Creek community north of Wewahitchka on April 6, 2026, an incident that has left family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers grappling with unanswered questions and overwhelming grief.

Around 12:30 p.m. CT that Monday, dispatchers at the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local business reporting that one of its employees had not shown up for work, prompting an immediate welfare check at the Strickland residence on Stone Mill Creek Road where deputies arrived to find no response at the door and no visible signs of forced entry or disturbance.

While law enforcement continued searching other known locations for the couple, family members and friends who had grown concerned independently entered the home and discovered Lorelei and Jarrott deceased inside one of the bedrooms, a heartbreaking scene that immediately brought deputies back to the property to secure the area and begin their investigation.

Preliminary findings from the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the deaths resulted from gunshot wounds in what appears to be a murder-suicide, with evidence indicating Jarrott Strickland shot and killed his wife Lorelei before turning the weapon on himself, though no motive has been released and the case remains an active, ongoing investigation with no threat to the public.

The suddenness of the discovery has amplified the pain across Wewahitchka and the broader Gulf County area, where the couple was known for their everyday presence in the rural community, and where Lorelei’s recent social media post just days earlier expressed deep gratitude for her job, customers, and coworkers who made her feel loved and supported.

Coworkers of Lorelei have since launched a GoFundMe to support her family in the wake of the tragedy, while acquaintances and neighbors have shared quiet tributes describing the Stricklands as always sweet and nice, underscoring the profound void left by two lives that ended far too soon in the quiet home along Stone Mill Creek Road.
