LaGrange Double Homicide: Jakhala Moss and Jamarcus Kennedy Killed in LaGrange, Georgia

Jakhala Moss, 26, and Jamarcus Kennedy, 18, were slain in a shooting late on Monday afternoon, and LaGrange, Georgia, is in sorrow. On March 30, 2026, at about 5:35 p.m., LaGrange police responded to several complaints of shooting in the parking lot at the Cameron Crossing Apartments on Meadow Terrace. The neighborhood has been startled by the attack’s suddenness while detectives try to figure out what caused the fatal encounter.

When officers arrived, they found Moss unresponsive in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Witnesses told police that another victim might be inside Moss’s apartment, prompting officers to conduct a rapid search of the residence. Inside, they discovered Kennedy, who had been shot while attempting to flee the gunfire. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the initial investigation, two suspects approached the apartment building on foot before opening fire on both victims. Detectives believe Kennedy was struck outside and managed to run into Moss’s apartment before collapsing. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving behind a chaotic and tragic scene that stunned residents of the complex.

LaGrange police spent hours processing the area, collecting shell casings, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses who heard or saw the attack. The apartment complex, located in a residential area off Cameron Mill Road, was cordoned off as investigators worked to reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities have not yet released descriptions of the suspects, and the motive remains under investigation.

City leaders addressed the community the following day, acknowledging the growing concern over recent violence. Officials emphasized that the double homicide at Cameron Crossing was part of a troubling pattern of shootings in the area and urged residents to come forward with any information that could help identify the shooters. They stressed the importance of community cooperation in preventing further violence and supporting grieving families.

As the investigation continues, the deaths of Moss and Kennedy have left a deep void for their families and the LaGrange community. Moss, a mother of two, and Kennedy, a young man whose life had only just begun, are being remembered with sorrow and disbelief. Police continue to appeal for tips as they work to bring justice to the victims and closure to those mourning their loss.
