Kings County, CA – Jose Ramos, 35, of Oakdale Among Five Killed in Fiery Collision on Highway 41

The California Highway Patrol reports that five persons were killed in a horrific head-on accident in Kings County on Sunday morning, April 12, 2026. On Highway 41, just south of York Avenue, the collision happened between 10:29 and 10:30 in the morning. This location is notorious for its high weekend traffic.

CHP investigators reported that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Highway 41 when the driver attempted to pass slower‑moving vehicles. During the maneuver, the Silverado crossed into the northbound lane and struck a white 2022 Toyota Prius head‑on. The violent impact caused the pickup to overturn onto the shoulder and immediately catch fire.

The driver of the Silverado and three passengers inside the truck were killed in the crash. The fire consumed much of the vehicle before emergency crews could extinguish it, and all four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. CHP noted that investigators are still working to determine whether impairment or speed contributed to the collision.

The driver of the Prius, 35‑year‑old Jose Ramos of Oakdale, also died from his injuries. Ramos was the sole occupant of the Prius and was declared dead at the scene alongside the four victims in the Silverado. His identity was later confirmed by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.

The crash shut down both directions of Highway 41 for an extended period as officers documented the scene, cleared debris, and coordinated with the coroner’s office. CHP officials emphasized the severity of the collision, noting that the force of the impact and resulting fire made the investigation particularly complex.

Authorities continue to examine physical evidence and witness statements to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash. The CHP has urged drivers to use caution when attempting to pass on two‑lane highways, stressing that a single misjudgment can result in catastrophic loss of life, as seen in this tragic incident.
