Kasie Luquette Richardson, 33, of Youngsville, was one of three victims in a tragic murder-suicide that occurred on March 15, 2026, at the family home on Braxton Drive, an act of violence that also claimed the life of her six-year-old son Jasper and ended with her husband Brett Richardson taking his own life.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, but for those who knew Kasie, the questions surrounding her death will never overshadow the memory of the vibrant woman who brought light to everyone she encountered.
Born into a loving family, Kasie grew up surrounded by the warmth of south Louisiana, where she developed the fierce loyalty and generous spirit that would come to define her adult life. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Ainsley Toups and her son Brantley Duhon, children who now face the unimaginable task of growing up without her physical presence but who will carry forward the lessons of love she instilled in them.
She was the kind of person who could walk into a room and immediately put others at ease, whose strength was matched only by her tenderness, and whose absence leaves a hole in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her parents, Wayne and Beth Luquette, Sr., and Angela and Stanley Birdwell, along with her siblings Logan and Victoria Boudreaux, Brendan Birdwell, Hunter and Haley Lange, and Wayne Luquette, Jr., are left to navigate a grief that words cannot adequately capture.
The loss of six-year-old Jasper has compounded the family’s sorrow in ways that defy comprehension. A neighbor who spoke with local media described the young boy as someone who often played outside and greeted people walking by, sometimes stopping to pet the family dog, a small but heartbreaking window into a life filled with the ordinary joys of childhood.
Services for Jasper have been scheduled for March 27, with attendees asked to honor his memory by wearing bright colors, children in shades of yellow and adults in colorful attire, a fitting tribute to a boy whose light was extinguished far too soon. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery following a noon funeral service, and a GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover burial expenses.
Visitation for Kasie will take place at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville on Friday, March 20, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a rosary scheduled for 7:00 PM, continuing Saturday from 8:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 1:00 PM. Deacon William Billy Vincent will officiate the service celebrating her life, offering words of comfort to a family and community still reeling from the violence that took her away.
A meal train has been organized to support Kasie’s surviving children and the families now caring for them, a tangible expression of the community’s determination to wrap those left behind in love and practical support.
Kasie was preceded in death not only by Jasper and Brett but also by her grandfathers Lester Luquette, Sr., and James Russell, and her grandmother Ruby Underwood. She leaves behind her grandmothers Marybelle Luquette and Rachael Russell, her godchild Lillian Boudreaux, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins who will carry her memory forward.
As Vincent Funeral Home opens its doors this weekend, those who gather will remember Kasie not for the tragedy of her death but for the beauty of her life, a wildflower whose seeds have been planted in the hearts of all who loved her and who will bloom there forever.
