Family and friends in Seagrove are mourning following the passing of James Thomas “J.T.” Davis, 88, on Monday, January 5, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House. His departure has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him, as he was a man whose life was defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for the outdoors.
Born on August 28, 1937, J.T. grew up with strong values instilled by his parents, Elbert and Daisy Green Davis. Over the years, he built a life rooted in dedication and resilience, working at Klopman Mills, spending time at a sawmill, and later devoting himself to farming. Beyond his work, he found joy in quail hunting, a pastime that reflected his appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life.
J.T.’s journey was not without sorrow, as he was preceded in death by his daughter, Katrina Davis, his sisters Eva Williams and Shirley Branson, and his brothers Clarence and Marvin Davis. Despite these losses, he carried himself with strength and remained a source of support and love for his family and community. His life was a testament to perseverance and the bonds that hold families together through both joy and hardship.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Inez, who stood by his side through the years, and his daughter, Karen Davis of Wilmington, who will forever cherish his memory. His sister, Vivian Norwood of Seagrove, along with three nieces, three nephews, and countless friends, will remember him not only for his kindness but also for the warmth and wisdom he shared throughout his life.
The community will gather to honor J.T.’s life at a graveside service scheduled for 2 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Smyrna Church Cemetery. Reverend Arnold Comer will officiate the service, offering words of comfort as family and friends come together to celebrate a life well lived and to bid farewell to a man who touched many lives.
