Jaleeyah “LeeLee” Tune, a bright and spirited 13-year-old seventh grader at Wayne Middle/High Academy, was fatally shot on December 21, 2025, near the Alpha Arms Apartments on Alpha Court off Patetown Road in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The community is reeling from the sudden loss of a young life full of promise and joy.
Known for her bubbly personality and enthusiasm as a cheerleader, Jaleeyah brought energy and warmth to school activities and to the friends and classmates who counted on her smile. Born prematurely just before Christmas in 2012 and described by her mother as a “miracle baby,” she was deeply loved by her family and shared a close bond with her sister J’Sheeyah, who was with her and held her in her final moments.
The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. as the sisters walked home after getting food. According to authorities, unknown assailants fired multiple shots from nearby bushes; Jaleeyah died at the scene while her sister survived physically unharmed but profoundly traumatized. Three teenage boys—two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old—were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony conspiracy, a development that has intensified the community’s shock and sorrow.
Neighbors and residents have gathered at the site with flowers, balloons, and stuffed animals to honor Jaleeyah’s memory, and Wayne County Public Schools has pledged support services for students and staff returning from break. Community leaders and families are calling for increased youth intervention and resources to help prevent similar tragedies and to support healing in Goldsboro’s neighborhoods.
Jaleeyah’s life, though far too short, left a lasting impression on those who knew her—through her cheerleading spirit, her joyful presence, and the deep love of her family.
