It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dolores (Fiorillo) Calway. The 96-year-old beloved resident of Bristol, Connecticut, began her journey of eternal rest on Monday, March 23, 2026. Born on April 10, 1929, to Albert and Rose (Cercone) Fiorillo, Dolores was the eldest of three daughters and the last one to be called home just shy of her 97th birthday.
She attended Bristol Schools and graduated from Bristol High School with the Class of 1947, carrying the values of family, faith, and quiet strength that would define her long and meaningful life. Her peaceful passing has left a gentle but profound ache in the hearts of her family and the Bristol community that knew her as a steady, loving presence for nearly a century.
On June 12, 1948, Dolores married her husband of 58 years, Clayton “Clay” Calway, in Bristol. In 1953 they welcomed their only son, Steven G. Calway, and together they were very active and supportive parents, especially during Steven’s service in the Armed Forces.
Dolores often spoke with pride about their trip to visit him in North Carolina, cherishing those family memories that became part of the stories she loved to share. She remained a very prominent and matriarchal figure in the family, lovingly known to all as Do-Do or Auntie Do, and she found her greatest joy in staying close to home with the ones she loved most.
Dolores had a warm and nurturing spirit that made everyone around her feel safe and cherished. She approached life with patience, grace, and a deep sense of devotion, always putting family first and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and quiet encouragement. Whether through simple daily routines or special family gatherings, she had a way of making ordinary moments feel special and lasting, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that her children, grandchildren, and extended family will carry with them always.
She is survived by her son Steven G. Calway, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her deeply. Dolores was predeceased by both her parents, her husband Clayton Calway, her sisters Marlene Fiorillo and Mildred “Millie” Romano, three nephews, and a niece. As the last of her generation in the family, her passing marks the end of an era, yet her memory remains a steady guiding light for those she leaves behind.
Dolores (Fiorillo) Calway will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and matriarch whose quiet strength, warmth, and unwavering love for family defined a life well lived. Though her time with us has ended, the values of faith, kindness, and devotion she instilled in those around her continue to live on in every story shared and every act of love performed in her honor, offering comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
