It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Devonta Lee. The former wide receiver for the LSU Tigers and Louisiana Tech Bulldogs lost his courageous battle with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, on February 26, 2026 at the age of 26. A native of Fluker, Louisiana and a standout at Amite High School, Devonta’s journey through college football was defined by his passion for the game and his inspiring resilience in the face of every challenge he faced.
Devonta first battled osteosarcoma in 2022 while at Louisiana Tech, enduring severe back pain that led to two surgeries, 10 weeks of chemotherapy, and seven weeks of radiation. He rang the bell in celebration of remission and showed remarkable determination by returning to the field in 2024, continuing to chase his dreams while motivating teammates with his unbreakable spirit and positive outlook.
During his time at LSU from 2019 to 2021, Devonta was part of the 2019 national championship team, contributing as a freshman in 13 games and recording 11 receptions for 112 yards and one touchdown over his Tigers career. He brought the same commitment and heart when he transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he continued to showcase his skills and love for football with the same dedication that defined him on and off the field.
Those who knew Devonta remember him for his genuine warmth, positive attitude, and the way he lifted up teammates and friends. His relentless work ethic on the field was matched by his kind nature off it, making him a beloved figure in the Louisiana football community who left a lasting impression through his humility and quiet strength.
