A fatal single-vehicle incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 13, 2026, on the northeast side of Indianapolis. Near the interchange of Interstate 465 and Pendleton Pike, a vehicle operated by Dechon Sims, age 28, departed the roadway and entered a retention pond shortly after midnight.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to emergency notifications. Four officers immediately entered the cold, submerged vehicle to extract the occupants: the driver, a nine-year-old male child, and an eight-year-old female child.
