A Halifax County community is mourning the loss of 63‑year‑old Brenda A. Hurt, who died in a single‑vehicle crash on Sinai Road on Monday, March 9, 2026. According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 2:24 p.m., when Hurt’s 2005 GMC Envoy was traveling eastbound on Sinai Road, approximately two‑tenths of a mile east of Cassada Lane.
Investigators reported that the SUV ran off the right side of the roadway before striking an embankment and overturning. Hurt, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. She died at the scene from her injuries, according to Halifax County Coroner and Virginia State Police officials.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the severity of the crash left no opportunity for lifesaving intervention. The roadway remained partially closed for several hours as troopers documented the scene, examined the vehicle’s final position, and assessed roadway conditions. Hurt will have a public viewing at Jeffress Funeral Home in South Boston on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. The next day, Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11 a.m., there will be funeral services at New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church, where loved ones will come to celebrate her life and legacy.
