On November 30, 2025, Amarillo, Texas, was shaken by a tragic predawn shooting in the 1600 block of NW 9th Avenue that claimed the lives of two residents. Among the victims was 42-year-old Andy Wayne Curtis Galloway.
Andy was born in Amarillo on June 14, 1983, to parents Wayne and Linda Galloway. He grew up in the city’s historic southwest neighborhoods, where he developed a lifelong connection to the ranching traditions and hands-on trades of the Texas Panhandle.
He graduated from Amarillo High School in 2001, having excelled in vocational agriculture, and spent his teenage summers welding on local oil rigs, which shaped his self-reliant character.
For 18 years, Andy worked as a journeyman auto mechanic at Panhandle Transmission Service, specializing in heavy-duty diesel repair. Colleagues respected him for his meticulous skill and his willingness to mentor young apprentices in the trade.
Family was the center of Andy’s life. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 15 years, Maria, and a proud father to their two young sons, coaching their Little League team at Sam Houston Park. Weekends were filled with family barbecues, hunting trips near Lake Meredith, and restoring classic cars in his garage. He also volunteered his time and mechanical skills to help build wheelchair ramps for seniors through Amarillo Habitat for Humanity.
The Amarillo Police Department moved swiftly in its investigation, announcing the arrest of 17-year-old Tavon Lin Ammons on two counts of murder. Andy’s family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
A memorial service is tentatively planned for December 7 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to local youth vocational programs, honoring Andy’s belief in hard work and practical skill.
