On December 3, 2025, the Chico, California community was devastated by the loss of Alexandra Wynter, a 28-year-old California State University, Chico student, in a tragic incident police have described as a suspected domestic violence murder-suicide.
Alongside 33-year-old Anthony Lopez, Alexandra was found deceased from gunshot wounds at a Warner Street residence. Authorities believe Lopez shot Alexandra before taking his own life.
Alexandra was a dedicated biological sciences major at Chico State, with plans to graduate in the spring of 2026. She balanced her rigorous coursework with deep involvement on campus and in the community. She worked at Enloe Health, supported student services at the university bookstore, and served as Community Connections Director for Community Action Volunteers in Education—a role that reflected her passion for outreach and helping others.
An active member of the Black Student Union, Alexandra was committed to fostering inclusion and connection among students. Colleagues and friends remember her as warm, genuine, and a natural bridge-builder who brought people together with kindness and intention.
Outside of her studies and work, Alexandra loved spending time outdoors in Chico, often hiking in Bidwell Park and visiting local farmers’ markets. These simple joys complemented her academic interest in the natural world and provided balance during her busy life.
Alexandra’s family, friends, and the Chico State campus are mourning a young woman whose life was defined by purpose, generosity, and a bright future ahead. In response to this tragedy, Chico State is offering counseling and support to students and staff through WellCat Counseling at 855-530-6802.
Though her life was tragically cut short, Alexandra Wynter’s legacy of service, compassion, and academic dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her. The community stands together in grief, remembering her light and calling for greater awareness and action to prevent domestic violence.
