Terryll Little, 19, of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot late Monday night, May 11, 2026, in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Market Square after an altercation with a man he knew. He was found with two gunshot wounds to the chest and later died at the hospital.
Police responded to reports of gunfire just after 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Forbes Avenue, where they discovered Little critically injured. Officers applied chest seals and rendered aid until medics arrived. He was rushed to a local hospital and taken directly into surgery but was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Witnesses told investigators that Little had been involved in a fight with another man before the shooting. Detectives recovered shell casings at the scene and are reviewing surveillance footage from Market Square to identify the suspect. As of May 13, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Little’s identity and cause of death. His passing marks the first homicide in Downtown Pittsburgh in 2026. Officials noted that crime in the city’s central business district has risen sharply this year, with aggravated assaults more than doubling compared to the same period in 2025.
The shooting occurred less than three weeks after Market Square reopened with promises of tighter security and a new chaperone policy requiring juveniles under 18 to be accompanied by adults during evenings. Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor called the violence troubling, stating that “one shooting is too many” and emphasizing the need for stronger public safety measures.
Little’s death has been memorialized on the National Gun Violence Memorial, where candles have been lit in his honor. Community members have expressed grief and frustration, noting that Market Square is a popular gathering place and that the tragedy underscores the ongoing challenges of gun violence in Pittsburgh.
