Tater Johnson, a 19-year-old student-athlete from Rapid City, South Dakota, was tragically killed in a bus crash on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, while traveling with the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:06 a.m. on Iowa Highway 4 near 220th Street, just west of Twin Lakes in Calhoun County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the college-operated charter bus veered off the roadway and overturned into a ditch, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.

Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving several 911 calls reporting the rollover. A state trooper arrived within minutes, and first responders began triaging and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. At least a dozen individuals sustained injuries, though the extent of those injuries has not been fully disclosed. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
