Family and friends in Milledgeville and the wider Toombs County community are mourning following the passing of Roseann “MeMe” Lewis Roberts on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta after a brief illness. She was 64 years old.
Born on July 29, 1961, Mrs. Roberts was a native of Toombs County, where she grew up in Lyons and graduated from Lyons Senior High School in 1979 . She later made her home in Milledgeville for most of her life, where she was a faithful member of Freedom Church. She cultivated a twenty-year career as a self-employed photographer, a profession that reflected her creative spirit and attention to detail. In her personal time, she found joy in baking and cooking, and her family says she delighted most in “spoiling her grandchildren”.
MeMe was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell Van Lewis, Jr. and Lorraine Usher Lewis, and her older brother, Steve Lewis. She is survived by her devoted husband of forty-seven years, Joe Roberts. She leaves behind a legacy through her two daughters, Sterling Roberts Roberts (husband Kelly) and Sara Roberts Grizzard (husband Billy), all of Milledgeville.
Her five grandchildren—Meadow Roberts, Autumn Roberts, Cameron Poteet, Maddie Castillo, and Anslee Grizzard—were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Lewis (wife Renee) of the New Branch Community; her sister, Sharon Lewis Taylor (husband Bill) of Carrolton; and her sister-in-law, Sue Lewis of Mt. Vernon.
The family will receive friends at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM. A graveside funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the Lyons City Cemetery, with Pastors Tim Thomas, Randall Thomas, and Gary Yonce officiating.
The family has expressed that flowers are welcome, or for those who wish, memorial donations may be made in Roseann’s name to Blood Cancer United through their website. The final arrangements are entrusted to Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia.
Roseann “MeMe” Roberts will be remembered as a creative soul, a dedicated family matriarch, and a woman whose greatest joy was found in her home, her kitchen, and the laughter of her beloved grandchildren.
