It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Philip Anthony Campbell, the legendary Welsh rock guitarist best known as the powerhouse force behind Motörhead for more than three decades whose thunderous riffs helped define an era of heavy music.
The 64-year-old passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026 following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation leaving the global rock community and his family in profound grief. His sudden loss has created an irreplaceable void yet his indelible sonic legacy and warm personal spirit continue to resonate with fans and loved ones around the world.
Born on May 7 1961 in Pontypridd Wales Campbell grew up immersed in music and joined Motörhead in 1984 becoming an integral part of the band’s iconic sound until its dissolution in 2015 after the death of frontman Lemmy Kilmister. His fierce melodic playing powered classic albums and anthems that influenced generations of musicians while his onstage energy and offstage humility earned him respect from peers and audiences alike.
Beyond the global stage Phil was a devoted husband a wonderful father and a proud and loving grandfather affectionately known as “Bampi” to his grandchildren. He continued his musical passion relentlessly with his own band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons proudly sharing the stage with his three sons Todd Dane and Tyla who carried forward the family tradition of high energy rock performance.
Campbell’s commitment to excellence and community impact shone through both his music and his personal relationships where he remained steadfast in supporting those closest to him through every season of life.
