On December 13, 2025, Mr. Clifford Bronwood Maxwell Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Climax, Georgia. Born in Bainbridge on August 18, 1952, to Clifford B. Maxwell Sr. and Mattie Katherine Crowe Maxwell, he grew up in Decatur County surrounded by the values of hard work, family loyalty, and community ties that shaped his character throughout life.
Clifford’s early years in Bainbridge included schooling that culminated in his graduation from Bainbridge High School. Those formative experiences grounded him in the traditions of southwest Georgia, preparing him for a life defined by resilience and dedication.
For more than two decades, Clifford worked at Elberta Crate & Box Company, a Bainbridge institution established in 1905. His 22 years of service reflected not only his personal reliability but also his connection to a company that has long been part of the region’s economic and cultural identity. Known for producing wirebound crates used across the country, Elberta Crate has employed generations of local families, and Clifford’s contributions became part of that enduring legacy.
Outside of work, Clifford found joy in sports. He was a devoted fan of professional wrestling and football, following both college and NFL teams with enthusiasm. These passions brought him entertainment and camaraderie, whether enjoyed privately or shared with friends and family during seasons of competition and spirited rivalries.
In 2021, Clifford faced the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Katherine Marie Childs. Their marriage had been built on love, home, and family, and her passing left a profound absence in his daily life. Yet he remained sustained by the presence of his children and grandchildren, who continued to bring meaning and light to his days in Climax.
Clifford is survived by his children, Brian Timothy Maxwell and Tiffany Renee Maxwell; grandchildren Nakiah Ramer, Grayson Timothy Maxwell, Jonathan Ramer, and Haven Kennedy; and siblings Alberta Calhoun, Nora Kaye Ramer, Myra E. Roberts, Sue Ellen Dapsi, Kimberly Lane, Linda Johns, James William Maxwell, Edith Jeanette Lewis, and Danny Lavon Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings Edna Faye Colvin, Ernest Eugene Maxwell, Harry L. Maxwell, Lynwood Maxwell, Donald Hugh Maxwell, and Bronwood Lamar Maxwell.
In remembrance, Clifford Maxwell is celebrated as a man whose life embodied dedication, loyalty, and the quiet joys of everyday living. His legacy endures in the family he cherished, the work he performed with pride, and the community he enriched.
