It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of McKinlee Culkin of Reston, VA, on December 3, 2025, at the age of 34. Her sudden departure has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken, mourning the loss of a woman whose warmth, kindness, and genuine spirit touched countless lives.
A lifelong Northern Virginia resident, McKinlee grew up in Herndon and was a graduate of South Lakes High School and George Mason University. For the past decade, she served as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Reston Association, where she passionately organized events that brought people together—from lake cleanups and summer concerts to the beloved annual multicultural festival at Lake Anne.
McKinlee had a special gift for making everyone feel seen and valued. Whether she was greeting neighbors by name at the farmers market, sharing a treat with a dog on her evening walk, or quietly offering support to someone having a difficult day, her thoughtful presence was a constant source of comfort and joy. Colleagues remember how her humor and storytelling could brighten even the most ordinary moments.
She lived in a townhouse near the Silver Line with her rescue beagle, Finley, and filled her home and weekends with warmth—hosting potluck dinners, paddleboarding at sunrise, volunteering as a reader at Dogwood Elementary, and remembering every birthday with a handwritten card and her famous homemade lemon bars.
In the wake of her passing, an outpouring of love has flooded social media, with friends and neighbors sharing memories of McKinlee dancing at community events, organizing toy drives, and simply making Reston a kinder, more connected place.
A public celebration of McKinlee’s life will be held on December 14, 2025, at the Walker Nature Center, where all who knew her are invited to gather and honor the light she brought into the world.
