A mass shooting erupted inside EZ’s Lounge at 412 14th Street in downtown Oakland, California around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday March 7, 2026 turning the popular late night bar into a scene of chaos just blocks from City Hall and in the heart of the city’s entertainment district.
Oakland Police Department officers responded swiftly to reports of gunfire and found seven people shot amid the aftermath of what witnesses described as a sudden argument that spilled across the crowded venue. The bar located near the intersection with Broadway had been bustling with patrons following the popular First Friday street festival drawing a mix of locals and visitors to its central location in the vibrant downtown core.
The violence began during a dispute between patrons inside the establishment prompting at least one individual to open fire. Multiple rounds were discharged in rapid succession with stray bullets striking several bystanders in the packed space. One victim identified as 33-year-old Latetia “Teesh” Bobo a beloved eighth-grade English language arts teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo and a talented local singer writer and producer died at the scene from her gunshot wounds. Known affectionately as Teesh in both education and music circles she had been out with friends enjoying the night when she was struck by a stray bullet. Colleagues and students at the San Pablo charter school remembered her as an incredible educator whose passion and warmth left a lasting impact on young lives across the East Bay.
A second victim a 25-year-old man from Oakland was transported to a hospital with critical injuries but succumbed to his wounds around 11:30 a.m. later that morning. Five other victims three women and two men in their 20s and 30s sustained non life threatening gunshot wounds and were treated at area hospitals with all expected to survive. The rapid medical response from on scene paramedics and nearby trauma centers helped stabilize the injured while the full scope of the tragedy unfolded in the downtown Oakland bar.
Oakland Police recovered multiple weapons from the scene and continue their active investigation with assistance from forensic teams and witness interviews.
