We regret to inform you that Kimberly Jill Morrell, lovingly known to many as “KJ” or “Kimmie,” died peacefully at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the age of 49. She made a significant impact on Port Perry and the neighboring regions with her lively personality and community participation.
From 2011 until 2016, Kimmie was the proud owner and operator of KJ’s Shack in Port Perry, a well-liked local meeting place at 56 Water Street that is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and fun times. During those years, she planned a number of philanthropic events, with a particular enthusiasm for generating money and awareness for issues near to her heart related to breast cancer.
In 2016, after selling her company, Kimmie took a four-month vacation in Mexico to mourn the death of her older sister, demonstrating the depth of her resilience and love. She enrolled in Durham College’s Hospitality Management Program after returning home, channeling her power and will into new beginnings.
Kimmie served as the Food and Beverage Manager at the Goodwood Golf Course on a seasonal basis when she was a student. Her professionalism, friendliness, and leadership left a lasting impact on both coworkers and visitors. Her real relationships and excellent work ethic made individuals feel appreciated and supported, and she applied the same compassionate approach to every task.
Those who knew Kimmie describe her as someone whose determination and compassion shone through even in difficult times. From running her own business to pursuing education later in life while giving back to causes she believed in, she lived with purpose and heart. Her family and friends will carry forward the lessons of resilience and generosity she embodied so fully.
In celebrating Kimberly Jill Morrell, the community mourns a woman who touched many lives through her business, charitable efforts, and personal warmth. Though her time ended at 49, the memories of her strength and caring spirit will continue inspiring those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she brightened.
