We are utterly heartbroken to inform you that Kelly Arthur Brinkerhoff, a 48-year-old dedicated Engineer with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue was involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash while off-duty on U.S. Highway 50 near mile marker 28 in Lander County, central Nevada, east of Austin on February 25, 2026 and did not survive.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol, the blue Freightliner he was driving failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centerline, left the roadway, struck a sign, and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Brinkerhoff had served the department and the Las Vegas community with honor since joining in 2002, most recently assigned to Fire Station 6 after many years on C Platoon at the busy Fire Station 1.
Throughout nearly 24 years with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, he built a reputation as a skilled, calm, and deeply committed firefighter who mentored new engineers and contributed to the department’s leadership academy, always emphasizing that true leadership comes from actions, character, and consistency rather than rank.
In addition to his firefighting career, Kelly was a passionate advocate for wrestling throughout Nevada, serving as a coach, mentor, and supporter of young athletes. He inspired countless aspiring wrestlers with his encouragement and dedication, helping them pursue their dreams both on and off the mat. His involvement in the local wrestling community reflected the same compassion and commitment he brought to every aspect of his life.
Kelly was a devoted husband and proud father of five, known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for his family. He showed up fully for those he loved, creating a foundation of strength and care that will continue to guide them. His positive spirit and quiet resilience touched everyone fortunate enough to know him, whether through his work, his coaching, or simple everyday moments.
The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue family and the broader Southern Nevada community have been deeply shaken by the news, with tributes highlighting the profound loss of a respected colleague and friend. The department has asked residents to honor his life and service while keeping his family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
