It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Judith “Judie” K. Urbanek, 79, of Wausau, Wisconsin, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Her sudden departure has left her family, friends, students, and church community in deep sorrow.
Judie made her home in Wausau for many years, where she became a familiar and respected figure in both educational and religious circles. She lived with purpose and grace, creating a life centered on service, learning, and meaningful connections with those around her. Her steady presence brought comfort and inspiration to family and friends alike.
A dedicated foreign language teacher, Judie shared her love of learning with countless students throughout her distinguished career. She taught at Zion Lutheran School, Wausau East High School, and St. Mary’s Oratory, where she instructed the pre-seminary program for several years. Her passion for languages and education left a lasting impact on generations of young minds.
Judie was deeply involved in her Zion Lutheran Church community, serving faithfully as a reader and as a devoted member of the choir. Her strong Christian faith guided her daily life and was evident in the kindness and humility she showed to others. She found great fulfillment in worship and in supporting her church family.
Outside of her professional and church commitments, Judie found great joy in gardening, traveling, and reading. These interests reflected her appreciation for beauty, discovery, and lifelong learning. Friends and family recall how she approached these hobbies with enthusiasm and often shared the fruits of her garden or stories from her travels.
A funeral service for Judie will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau. Visitation will take place at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. As loved ones gather to honor Judith “Judie” K. Urbanek, they celebrate a life rich in faith, service, and quiet devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
