A heartbreaking accident at a popular Mississippi recreational area claimed the life of a devoted newlywed father early on a Saturday morning. Jacob Nitkiewicz, 31, of Gulfport, was fatally shot in the head while fishing at Flint Creek Water Park in Wiggins.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2026, at Flint Creek Water Park, a 650-acre recreational state park featuring a large lake for fishing, boating, and swimming in Stone County, Mississippi, located about 120 miles south of Jackson near Wiggins. Wiggins Police Department officers responded to reports of a man suffering a gunshot wound to the head. By the time first responders arrived, Nitkiewicz had already died at the scene.
