Jack Terrell TCSO Death – Longtime Tulare County Sheriff Volunteer Has Tragically Died

A head-on accident on Highway 190 in Tulare County, California, early on Monday morning, February 9, 2026, claimed the life of 90-year-old Jack Terrell, a lifelong volunteer with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred east of Success Valley Drive, on the rural stretch of road between Springville and Porterville. His wife, 79-year-old Lucinda Terrell, who was also in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Terrells were traveling westbound in a Honda Pilot when a 2019 GMC 2500 pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old man heading eastbound, veered into their lane around 7:30 a.m. The vehicles collided head-on with devastating force. Jack Terrell died at the scene from his injuries, while the driver of the GMC suffered only minor injuries.

The Terrells were well known in the Springville community for their volunteer work. Both served as Volunteers in Patrol (VIPs) with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office since 2005, contributing countless hours to public safety efforts in the mountain communities. Sheriff Mike Boudreaux praised their dedication, calling Jack a pillar of the department’s volunteer program and expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

The crash site, a winding section of Highway 190, has been the scene of multiple accidents in recent years. Residents have long voiced concerns about visibility and speeding along the route. Monday’s tragedy has reignited calls for improved safety measures, including better signage and road maintenance to prevent future collisions.

Lucinda Terrell remains hospitalized as of the latest reports, with family and community members rallying around her recovery. The sheriff’s office and local officials have extended their support to the Terrell family, recognizing the couple’s decades of service and the profound impact they’ve had on the region.

As the California Highway Patrol continues its investigation, no charges have been announced. Authorities are working to determine whether driver error, distraction, or other factors contributed to the crash. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of a man who dedicated his golden years to protecting and serving others, and prays for the healing of his beloved wife.
