The community of Wabash remembers with love and gratitude the life of Floranna Irene “Fran” Gillespie, who passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 86. Surrounded by care at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine, Fran’s departure marked the close of a life defined by devotion to family, resilience, and kindness.
Fran was raised with a strong sense of religion, diligence, and compassion after being born in Danville, Illinois, on August 20, 1939. She wed John A. Gillespie on November 27, 1960, and their marriage lasted for over 60 years until his death in 2017. Their marriage, which was replete with shared pleasures, difficulties, and the unwavering companionship that supported their family, was a monument to enduring love.
Fran’s greatest pride was her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Valerie L. (Paul) Finnell of Indianapolis, Jon E. (Jody) Gillespie of LaFontaine, and Jennifer J. (Jeff) Gabe of Indianapolis, each of whom carry forward her lessons of love and perseverance. Her six grandchildren were the light of her later years, bringing her joy and purpose, while her sister, Rhonda (David) Vanderpool of Somerset, remained a cherished companion throughout her life.
Those who knew Fran remember her as a woman of quiet strength and gentle humor. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, whether through a warm smile, a thoughtful word, or the comfort of her presence. Her home was a place of gathering, where family traditions were nurtured and memories created.
Though her passing brings sorrow, Fran’s legacy endures in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were touched by her kindness. She leaves behind not only a family bound together by love, but also a reminder of the beauty found in devotion, resilience, and grace.
