A 38-year-old security guard lost his life early Sunday morning, May 10, 2026, while working at an after-hours nightclub in southeast Fort Worth. Dominique Coleman was employed at Club New Start on Miller Avenue.
He crossed the street to address customers in a nearby parking lot when a confrontation escalated rapidly. Police say the incident occurred outside H&J Hamburgers, a restaurant located across from the club.
According to authorities, 21-year-old Dadrian Freeman opened fire, striking Coleman multiple times, including one gunshot to the back of the head. Freeman also shot a woman in the shoulder and hit her in the head with the butt of his firearm before fleeing. The woman survived her injuries. Police have not released her name or current condition.
Dadrian Freeman fled the scene with his father, 46-year-old Dedrian Freeman Sr., and his brother, 22-year-old Dedrian Freeman Jr. All three were later arrested in Dallas County after law enforcement executed a search warrant.
Dadrian Freeman faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His father was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and had an active parole violation warrant. The brother was detained on a probation violation.
Coleman was remembered by loved ones as a hardworking father who took his security duties seriously. He often worked late-night shifts to help maintain safety at venues in the area. The shooting occurred around 5:45 a.m. on a commercial stretch of Miller Avenue near Highway 287. Community members have since gathered to express grief and demand justice. Many described Coleman as someone who was trying to de-escalate a tense situation when he lost his life.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, some of whom have called for changes regarding after-hours clubs in southeast Fort Worth.
