It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ethel “Babe” Eckstein, 91, of Peoria, Illinois, who died peacefully at home on December 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 12, 1934, to Frank and Elizabeth (Hermann) Roth, Babe’s life was rooted in central Illinois, where her warmth, hospitality, and quiet devotion touched generations.
Babe married Ronald Eckstein on February 9, 1957, at St. Boniface Church, and the couple shared nearly 69 years together. A devoted stay‑at‑home mother, she raised four children with patience and steady love, creating a home filled with laughter, care, and the comforting traditions that became family hallmarks.
Renowned for her remarkable cooking, Babe expressed love through meals that brought family and friends together. Her home was a welcoming place where gatherings were marked by joyful conversation and the aromas of home‑prepared dishes that became cherished memories for all who attended.
A devout Catholic, Babe found daily strength in prayer and the rosary. Her gentle nature and compassionate heart made her a source of comfort in Peoria’s neighborhoods, and her faith guided a life of service, kindness, and steady presence among relatives and neighbors.
Babe is survived by her husband Ronald; children Michael (Tory) Eckstein, Patrick Eckstein, Christina Eckstein, and Thomas (Amy) Eckstein; grandchildren Mallory (Carlos) Brown, Morgan Eckstein, Benjamin Eckstein, and Samuel Eckstein; and great‑grandson Carson Brown. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on December 26, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd Roth, and sister Roberta Jenkins, Babe’s legacy endures in the family traditions she created, the comfort she offered through hospitality, and the loving example she set. In this season of remembrance, family and community honor her life of compassion, faith, and heartfelt connection.
