A fatal shooting occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday March 22, 2026 in the area of La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata Maryland when Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata allegedly shot the front seat passenger during an argument inside his vehicle.
Witnesses in the back seat told investigators that Webber pulled over near Radio Station Road and Llano Drive and asked them to help pull the victim out of the car. The two passengers refused got out of the vehicle and flagged down La Plata Police Department officers who were in the area.
Webber then fled the scene with the victim still in the front passenger seat of the car. All occupants knew each other and the confrontation escalated rapidly in the vehicle on the streets of La Plata in Charles County.
The victim was identified as 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells of Waldorf Maryland. Nearly two hours after the shooting a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall Maryland called 911 to report a body in their yard. Officers responded and found Wells who had been shot and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The body had been dumped in the yard in Charlotte Hall about 14 miles from the initial shooting location in La Plata. Webber drove away with Wells still in the vehicle and later abandoned the car in Charlottesville Virginia. Albemarle County Police Department officers located Webber’s vehicle and used surveillance footage to track him to Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital where he was seeking treatment for a medical issue.
Upon his release from the hospital Webber was arrested without incident by Albemarle County officers and charged as a fugitive from justice. He was booked into the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail and is awaiting extradition to Charles County Maryland.
