Abigail Henney, 23, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, May 18, 2026, from injuries sustained in a violent motorcycle crash two days earlier at the intersection of Penn Street and 7th Street in Huntingdon Borough.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred around 2:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, when a Harley‑Davidson motorcycle carrying Henney as a passenger was traveling at a high rate of speed along Penn Street (Route 26).
At the same time, a BMW SUV driven by a 59‑year‑old Mount Union resident was turning left from 7th Street onto Penn Street. The motorcycle struck the rear driver’s side of the BMW with significant force.
The impact threw Henney approximately 20 feet from the motorcycle. Emergency crews responded quickly, and both Henney and the motorcycle operator, also 23, were airlifted by medical helicopter to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. The BMW driver was transported to Penn Highlands Huntingdon with minor injuries.
Henney suffered a traumatic brain injury and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, where doctors worked around the clock to save her. Despite intensive treatment, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday afternoon, May 18. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees confirmed her death, noting that she had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but the severity of the collision proved fatal.
The motorcycle operator remains hospitalized in the ICU with serious injuries. Authorities have stated that charges against the operator are pending the outcome of the investigation, as speed was a clear contributing factor in the crash. State police continue to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision.
Henney’s death has left the Huntingdon community devastated. Friends and family described her as a vibrant young woman whose life was cut short far too soon. Tributes emphasize her kindness and the deep grief felt by those who knew her. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet indicated whether additional charges will be filed against the motorcycle operator.
