It is with great sadness we announce the passing of A. J. Leeds. The 42-year-old Sacramento resident and dedicated Travel Security Manager at UC Davis Global Affairs left this world on February 6, 2026, after a life filled with curiosity, family devotion, and quiet achievements that touched everyone around him.
Born on January 19, 1984, in Portland, Oregon, AJ built a career in data analytics, research, and crisis management while earning two master’s degrees from the University of Denver before making his home in the Sacramento area.
AJ was a loving husband, father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy came from sharing stories about his grandparents, parents, spouse, children, and the newest little one in the family. He had an incredible ability to make every gathering feel special, always ready with a heartfelt tale or a warm smile that reminded everyone how deeply he cherished those bonds.
In high school he thrived as a multi-sport athlete, playing football, running cross country, competing in soccer, and participating in track. Earlier, as a middle school state chess champion, he found creative ways to stay focused despite his ADHD, famously wearing a ball cap throughout every match so he could fidget while sitting still. Those early experiences shaped his resilient and resourceful spirit.
One of his favorite pastimes was diving into research on all kinds of random topics, feeding a lifelong love of learning that kept him endlessly fascinated with the world. Whether at work supporting global travel safety at UC Davis or at home with family, AJ brought the same thoughtful energy and enthusiasm to everything he did.
His celebration of life will be held on September 5, 2026, with more details to come. Friends and family hope many will join to honor the amazing life he led and the countless ways he brightened the days of those around him.
