William Joseph Crauswell, 66, of Graysville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday night, May 3, 2026, after being involved in a single-vehicle motorbike accident near Adger, an unincorporated village in western Jefferson County. After attending to the deadly occurrence, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office verified his identification.
Authorities reported that the crash occurred in the 11000 block of Camp Oliver Road, a rural roadway characterized by wooded terrain and limited lighting. Officials stated that Crauswell had been operating a motorcycle along the roadway when the vehicle left the pavement for reasons still under investigation.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle struck a tree after departing the roadway, resulting in catastrophic impact forces. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported at the scene.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 7:12 p.m., arriving to find Crauswell unresponsive. Despite immediate assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:24 p.m., according to the coroner’s report.
Investigators noted that Camp Oliver Road includes curves, elevation changes, and narrow lanes that can pose challenges for motorists, particularly during evening hours when visibility is reduced. Officials have not yet determined whether speed, roadway conditions, or other factors contributed to the crash.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities are reviewing roadway evidence and scene conditions to establish the sequence of events leading to Crauswell’s death, and no further information has been released.
