Mississippi man Chaleyl Alexander found dead inside a Sunset Plaza Apartments in Jackson

A 30-year-old man was found dead inside an apartment at Sunset Plaza Apartments in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday evening, May 9, 2026. The victim was identified as Chaleyl Alexander. Officers from the Jackson Police Department responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the 3500 block of Sunset Drive at approximately 6:27 p.m. When they arrived, they found Alexander unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard pronounced Alexander dead at the scene. Responding units included patrol officers, the homicide unit, the Mobile Crime Lab, and the coroner’s office.
