Lucy Rollings, a longtime resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, died at her residence on January 3, 2026, at the age of one hundred and six. Her passing concludes an exceptionally long life characterized by quiet resolve and composure, maintained through independent living.
Her parents, Harkina and Misak Hagopian, welcomed her into the world on November 30, 1919, in Adapazar, Ottoman Turkey, during a time of extreme turmoil. She experienced the Armenian Genocide as a young child, a terrible event that caused much loss and relocation. A lifetime appreciation for safety, opportunity, and the strength that comes from family unity was fostered by her family’s later relocation to the United States, which marked a fundamental regeneration.
She pursued her education with deliberate intent, graduating from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, an institution recognized for its scholastic standards during that era. She subsequently completed supplementary training in administrative skills, preparing for a stable vocational path. For many years, she served as a bookkeeper for Lumbermen’s Wholesale Supply Company, contributing dependable and precise oversight to the firm’s financial operations across periods of regional economic fluctuation.
In her younger years, she engaged enthusiastically in social recreation, becoming a proficient ballroom dancer. She frequented venues such as the YWCA and the Indiana Roof Ballroom, where she earned dance awards with her future spouse, Barney, forming recollections rich in artistry and companionship.
Her spiritual life provided a constant foundation. Active participation in St. Paul’s Methodist Church during her earlier adulthood offered communal fellowship and devotional sustenance, informing her interpersonal conduct with an emphasis on benevolence and modesty.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on January 25, 2026, at Leppert Mortuary (740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis), followed by a brief memorial service.
